Books are taking over…

Will Fahy | Shot for Penguin Random House / Amber Husain 2026

I'm shooting books daily at the moment, there's a little backlog which I'm working through as quickly as I can - it's important not to rush these things as that can impact the quality of the final outcome.

Behind the scenes there's always something going on towards a book shoot - whether its gathering props, researching techniques, or simply running through ideas in my head to figure out what will work once I get the book under lights in the studio.

I always work backwards from the date of deadline with the key parts of a shoot - it takes time to develop a workable idea, and while my experience in the studio gives me a great idea of how long each part of a shoot will take - some creative ideas just don't work as you might have envisioned.

I will document my thought process on one of my upcoming books, it might be interesting to some to see what I need to think about in order to supply image assets all interested parties will be happy with.

Just as a little side note on this, I'm so, so pleased that so many authors, publishers and bookish people are trusting me to create assets for what will have been a huge part of the authors life (for likely two years or more) - I've been shooting in the studio for many years now and it was just a chance connection that introduced me to the publishing world in 2017. My first book photography was for Jyoti Patel (The Things That We Lost) - and it went down so well that I was immediately briefed with further books to shoot.

There's no looking back at this point. So a huge THANK YOU to everyone I've worked with in publishing so far, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for all this. If you're a publisher looking for creative photography for any of your finished copies, I will be so happy to help you out - drop me a line at hello@willfahyphoto.com

Back soon, Will
